Have you ever stood in front of your closet and thought, I have nothing to wear — even when it's completely full?

Google just solved that problem. And it did it using something you already have — your Google Photos library.

The new Google Photos Digital Wardrobe feature is here, and it's one of the most exciting things to come to Android this year.

 It arrived as part of the big June 2026 Android Drop, which also brought several other exciting updates — check out our full Android 17 Update article to see everything that's new. 

Let's break it down in simple terms. 

What Is Google Photos Digital Wardrobe?

Digital Wardrobe is a new AI-powered feature inside the Google Photos app. It automatically scans your existing photo library, identifies clothing worn across those images, and organizes everything into a browsable digital collection — with no manual tagging required. 

Think of it as your personal stylist, living inside your phone.

You don't need to upload anything new. You don't need to photograph your clothes separately. Google's AI looks through the photos you already have and does all the work for you.

Where Do You Find It?

Once available, Wardrobe will appear in the Collections tab inside Google Photos, alongside your People and Albums. 

The page is grouped into two sections — Items and Outfits — so you can browse individual pieces or full looks.

What Can You Do With It?

This feature is not just for looking at your clothes. It lets you actually use them in a new way.

Filter by category

You can look at everything together, or dive deeper into a single category — like jewelry, tops, or bottoms — then scroll to rediscover long-forgotten items that might still be buried in your closet.

Mix and match outfits

Tap the Create button to manually mix and match, with your wardrobe organized by Tops, Bottoms, Skirts, Dresses, Jewelry, and more. 

Virtual try-on

This is the most exciting part. All you have to do is select individual pieces from your wardrobe collection and tap Try it on.

 Google will then show you a preview of how the outfit looks on you before you actually get dressed — using the power of AI. Save and share looks. You can mix and match items to create outfits, then share them with friends or save them on a digital moodboard. 

Who Can Use It?

The feature requires Android 10 or higher and a library with Face Grouping enabled. The initial rollout is limited to the US, India, and Brazil.  

One important thing to know: 

it will only be available to users who subscribe to Google's AI Pro or Ultra plans.   So it is not completely free — but if you already use Google One's higher tiers, you're covered.

Why Does This Matter for Android Users?

The difference here is that it works with clothes you already own, not just things you're shopping for.  That's what makes it special.

Most virtual try-on tools are built for online shopping — you see a jacket on a model and wonder if it suits you. But Google Wardrobe flips this completely. It starts with your existing wardrobe, in your own photos, and helps you see your clothes in a new way.

This makes Google Photos something closer to a personal style assistant, rather than a simple photo storage app.

Is It Available on Your Device Right Now?

The rollout is gradual. Features arrive in stages by device and region rather than all at once.

 open your Google Photos app → Collections tab and look for the Wardrobe section. If it's not there yet, it's on its way.
